For over 10 years we have been producing unique and original stories with a universal appeal. This is made possible by our continued investment in talent, providing an enabling working environment and encouraging creative expression and inclusion in the workplace.

Through our strategic Partnerships with organizations such as the British Council’s Creative Enterprise Support Programme (Animation) we are at the forefront of developing the creative talent base in the Nigerian Animation industry.

OUR HISTORY

2011

The company was founded and officially registered, focusing on graphic design and print services. With a small team of 3 people and 3 staff members, we embarked on our journey to provide creative solutions for clients.

2012

We expanded by offering services to Ad-Agencies, catering to their needs for flash banners and interactive websites. This move strengthened our position in the digital design industry.

2016

A significant turning point came as we decided to refocus our efforts, transforming into a specialized animation studio. With a team of 8 talented individuals, we began developing our own intellectual property (IP), eager to make our mark in the animation world.

2017

Proudly, we produced our first pilot episode titled "Adefellas," showcasing our potential and passion for storytelling through animation.

2018

A momentous achievement occurred when our pilot episode for "L'arbre à Palimpseste" teaser won the prestigious Gulli award in the Animation du Monde competition at the renowned Annecy Film Festival. This accolade brought global recognition and opened new doors for our studio.

2019

Taking a step forward, we collaborated with EVCL on the production of the first season of "Bino and Fino." This successful partnership fueled our growth and allowed us to expand our team, bringing in more creative minds.

2020

Our journey of success continued as we embarked on a thrilling project, working on YouTube's original content, "Super Sema." This animated series caught the attention of industry leaders, and its nomination for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Animated Series in 2021 showcased our commitment to impactful storytelling.

2021

A monumental moment arrived when we won the Best International Film award at the esteemed Toronto Animation Film Festival International (TAFFI). This prestigious recognition served as a testament to our dedication to excellence and our continuous efforts to push the boundaries of animation storytelling.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION

In 2017 Basement Animation was mentioned as one of the Top 5 Nigerian Animation Studios in Discop Book. We co-produced the pilot episode of L’arbre à Palimpseste, which won the Gulli Prize in Animation du Monde / MIFA pitthe ch at Annecy Animation Film Festival 2018.

In 2021, our TV special pitch, Joko & Dide won the International MIFA Campus Talents- Nigeria organized by the French Embassy and headlined the Nigeria Focus @ MIFA at Annecy Animation Film Festival 2021. In March 2022, Halima’s Vote, won the Best International Film Award at the Toronto Animation Arts Festival International 2022 (TAAFI).
